Just last Tuesday, a client of mine did a special kind of tele-seminar, in it offered his tele-coaching program to 93 pre-qualified individuals, enrolled 43, and did over $129,000.00 in business, all in 90 minutes of "speaking by phone."
So, let me ask the question again…How much money did YOU make last Tuesday?
This is not a letter about the coaching business (although I do tell you how to make at least $100,000.00 a year with almost obscene ease in coaching in Manual #2. Oh, and a guy who owns a coaching company already doing over a million dollars a year did eagerly pay my $8,800.00 daily consulting fee to come to me and pick my brain two weeks ago.)
This IS a letter about ALL aspects of the business of speaking....the information delivery businesses that can be fueled by speaking......about making a lot more MONEY.
If you are insulted by a frank, blunt, no holds barred focus on making money in this business, then you might as stop reading now. If, however, your income could use a shot in the arm OR you're working too hard making money in your business OR you're frustrated with how hard it seems to be to "get over the hump" financially in the speaking business, then I have something important to tell you.
I am ready to hand you very definite, step-by-step, little known strategies for quickly increasing your income from speaking by at least $50,000.00 to $100,000.00 a year.....and for skyrocketing to prominence in your chosen field or market. And to absolutely guarantee the value of those strategies.

I have done just about everything that can be done in, with or as by-product of, a successful speaking business. And I've done some things no other speakers have done.

There's no shortage of folks eager to take your money and tell you how to succeed in speaking -- but an awful lot of those folks' personal track records seem to be tissue paper thin. Their exploits exaggerated undocumented, invisible. So, here, before going further, you have to decide whether I'm full of "bullstuff" or whether I could actually possess moneymaking know-how you do not have.
So, this isn't bragging. I've long ago lost any interest in impressing anybody. But I have to quickly tell you 12 things about me, so you can decide whether or not you ought to pay attention and give credibility to what I have to say, about building your career. Do I deserve your consideration? Decide based on these 12 quick bio-facts. Then read on, to see exactly how I can add "rocket fuel" to your income.
(1) SPEAK TO 200,000 PEOPLE A YEAR
I did 9 consecutive years on the Success Tour with Zig Ziglar, Peter Lowe, Brian Tracy, Jim Rohn, Tom Hopkins, former U.S. Presidents Bush and Ford, General Colin Powell and General Norman Schwarzkopf, Larry King and Paul Harvey, entertainment celebs like Bill Cosby, Naomi Judd, Johnny Cash, athletes like Joe Montana and Mary Lou Retton, etc. - those gigs were about half my speaking dates each year; the other half, "normal" corporate and association engagements and "abnormal" (but very lucrative) niche-market "boot camps." In total, I addressed over 200,000 folks each year.
Prior to the SUCCESS dates, for years, I had a more "traditional" speaking business mix of association and corporate dates. (I started in this business 27 years ago, speaking free to sell tickets to my own seminars. My first fee was $750.00. Today, I average $35,000.00 NET income per speech. And that's just fee/on site product income; indirect, total income per speech is much higher.) Last year, my worst date, a corporate gig, still yielded over $28,000.00 in income.
Many speakers would "kill" to get just one year of speaking at this level. I've been fortunate to get here and stay here, year after year after year. (By the way, I've NEVER been a "full-time speaker". Even in years I did as many as 70 dates, I was part-time.)
I have shown speakers how to completely change the way they obtain dates.....completely eliminate competing for bookings.....and how to substantially increase income per date (not just via platform selling either.) If, after as few as 3 years in speaking, you are still "scrounging around" for business OR making less than $10,000.00 a day when you speak, bluntly, you're doing some things wrong.
(2) SELL OVER A MILLION DOLLARS OF PRODUCT EACH YEAR
Every year, I sell well over One Million Dollars worth of my products from the platform. I sell product at EVERY engagement, including corporate and association gigs, including situations where other speakers say they "can't" or "aren't allowed" to do so. Also, I have coached a number of speakers in specific techniques that have increased their product sales pre-engagement (quantity bought by client), at, and post-engagement. Understanding my "million dollar platform presentation" will multiply your platform sales. Hearing my philosophy and my positioning to meeting planners about this may change your whole business.
Oh, and if you already sell from the platform and think you're pretty good at it, let me give you an example of what a little "Kennedy re-engineering" can do. I did a consulting day for a small group of speakers, and the one who arranged it began the day by telling everybody of just coming from a speaking engagement where she sold over $30,000.00 in product --- and that shortly before my Speaking Business Boot Camp that she attended, she had spoken to that same group, same size, same people, etc., and only done $8,000.00 in product sales. She attributed the $22,000.00 increase to specific changes in modus operandi I gave her at that Boot Camp.
Heck, I can even show you how to do "junk dates" -- no disrespect to such audiences, but I mean too small -- and do okay financially. Lots of folks are yakking about the Internet and many are eager to sell you web sites, banner ads, spots on "speaker sites" and so forth. As always, there's more money being made by the shovel sellers than by the shovel users. However, I actually am generating real income from my web sites and from Internet marketing, I really have booked speaking business directly from it, and can tell you "what's what" from a techno-resistant, computer-hating, all-thumbs perspective. Last month, income from my web sites, e-mail marketing and e-publishing exceeded $100,000.00. Knock on wood, it's getting bigger month by month.
I also have some clients achieving really extraordinary incomes from the Net. (For example, one NSA Member and speaker I work with now has certain corporate clients paying him fat monthly fees for something he's able to deliver via the net for pennies. Would you like to know exactly what he's doing?)
Here's a hint: a high-tech tool is no better than a low-tech tool if you do not have practical strategies for its profitable use. It's easy to be seduced by streaming video, screaming audio, and elaborate web sites, easy to be “pushed along" by speaker peer pressure to build fancier and fancier sites. I hear speakers talk about taking a year to "get their site right" or spending huge sums, and I ask: okay, you've built a $50,000.00 shovel. EXACTLY where are you going to dig with it today to load up your wheelbarrow with gold? The usual answer is: huh? Pfui.
(7) SOLD MY MAIL-ORDER BUSINESS
Six years ago (as part of my retirement plan) I sold my main products/mail-order business for a substantial sum plus continuing royalties for a number of years. Very few speakers ever create a saleable business. They work for years but build zero equity. I can show you a way to let your speaking fuel (and, if you wish, ultimately spin off) a second, stand-alone business that is a REAL business, with REAL value independent of your manual labor on stage.

(8) INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS INCLUDING "LICENSING"
I have received as much as $40,000.00 up front for licensing of my products in one geographic market, and I have helped others obtain even larger licensing fees and/or royalty advances. We also have many individual "members", some of whom travel here for seminars. Last year, we had them come from Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Chile., as well as Canada.
Oh, as an aside, "licensing" doesn't have to be geographic. Just this week, I licensed certain products for use in a niche market, a single industry, for $15,000.00 up front. I have one client who was paid a cool $150,000.00 last year from one corporate client for restricted-use reprint rights to her materials. $150,000.00, zero work, zero investment, zero fulfillment.
(9) BEING PUBLISHED: 8 BOOKS SIMULTANEOUSLY SOLD IN BOOKSTORES
My first book was published in 1991. It and every book published since remains available, on sale on bookstore shelves, amazon.com, in Kinkos stores, in catalogs. These books have not only been a nice direct source of income, but they have brought speaking engagements and lots of customers. Most speakers'll be lucky if they ever get one book published by a real publisher, let alone eight....and most speakers who do get a book published see it quickly die like a diseased animal. I know a few things about self-publishing vs. trade publishing, key contract elements, book proposals, getting published, keeping books alive in the marketplace, and leveraging them for maximum income.
Admittedly, I've never had the "blockbuster bestseller", and only one person I've ever consulted with has (Bill Phillips - BODY FOR LIFE). So I'm not the guy to tell you how to hit the next 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' home run. But in the land of the eminently doable and very practical, I can help you maximize ALL the benefits available from getting a book out.
(10) USEFUL PUBLICITY
I've been on the monthly tapes put out by Selling Power Magazine and Nightingale/Conant, featured repeatedly in Success Magazine, Boardroom Reports/Bottom Line publications, had a book included on Inc. Magazine's list of 500 best business books, been written up in nearly fifty targeted newsletters, interviewed on countless radio shows. I've focused on "publicity with a purpose", not just stacking up press clippings in a quest for the biggest pile.
In fact, I frequently turn down publicity opportunities, interviews, etc. that do not fit my personal strategy and thus do not deliver adequate value for time invested. People who are "masters" in the publicity field, like Bill Harrson, publisher of RADIO & TV INTERVIEW REPORT, and Paul Hartunian - who has been on every major TV talk show from CNN's to Sally Jesse Raphael, are both Insider's Circle Members of mine, and look to me for marketing and business advice. Anyway, again, what I have for you is in the arena of the eminently doable and practical.
(11) FAST, PROLIFIC PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
For myself and clients, I've created an average of a dozen new, major products every year. I've written and had published eight books in nine years. I put out two newsletters and a new audio tape every month. I have a complete product line just for the chiropractic and dental marketplace many people don't even know about. I know how to dramatically speed up the process of creating good, saleable, profitable info-products for platform sales, mail-order marketing and other distribution. To get rich in this business, you must be prolific. (Look at the MASSIVE product lines of Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy, Tom Hopkins, Blanchard, Covey.)
But just pushing product out the door isn't enough. For example, I made one discovery about product content about 10 years ago that nearly doubled my prices, margins, platform sales percentages. That same single piece of information has been worth a whole lot of money to a number of speakers I've worked with personally.

Starting from zero, largely thanks to my speaking business as "the driving force", I became financially independent by age 45. I'm now moving into "retirement" (over the next 3 years). The meeting planner says that she and her "committee" are going to review your materials along with five other speakers and then pick one. She'll let you know.
Nuts to that. Leave me out of that sick, humiliating process. Let the others all fight over these crumbs. Crying "pick me! Pick me!" like wallflowers at a barn dance. Or being pitted against each other for fee discounts. Again, nuts to all that. What you want to do is a very specific kind of positioning and marketing, so that you get your bookings in a zero-competition environment..........where you are the only contender......and where you aren't even bothered talking to a prospective client until that client has pre-determined he or she intends to hire you.
Frankly, you may not be able to make this particular change instantly, overnight. But you CAN start immediately. And you can complete the transition within a year.
Imagine: no more begging. No more losing out to some other speaker. No more grimy fee wrangling, when they call you back and beat you down based on how cheap the other guy'll work. I laugh when I hear speakers bragging to each other about how many dates they do a year – 100, 150, 200, 420. If this is the "red badge of courage" for speakers, count me out. For many of these braggarts, it means they're actually making minimum wage! But I once thought like this too. It's easy to get caught up in this. But it is much, much smarter (and much more worthy of bragging) to make twice the money in half the dates. The important stat is net income. And THE most impressive stat is big net income from few dates.
Through careful selection, then smart pre-date, at-date and post-date marketing, I'll show you how to at least triple your current fee in net earnings per engagement. You can then use this to cut the least desirable dates out of your schedule and give more time to your family, golf game, writing that novel of yours, or whatever. Of course, you'll have to give up bragging rights to the most number of layover hours spent in the Atlanta Airport.
By the way, for those of you who (still) love spending every waking moment either speaking or getting there, all this'll do is multiply your income. For those of you who HATE marketing, this dramatically reduces the amount of that needed, because you need fewer dates. Anyway you want to look at it, what I have to tell you about this is enormously valuable.

In dollars-per-head, I have probably, consistently outsold every other speaker. In the rally environment, I and the "big names" know this to be the fact. I have been paid as much as $50,000.00 to teach a speaker how to go from "chump" to "champ" in platform selling. How A "Heart Attack Waiting To Happen" Changed His Speaking Business
IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE IN THIS ENTIRE LETTER READ THESE NEXT FOUR PARAGRAPHS
Finally, I have a client who works mostly with big corporations. For years he's insisted he "can't" sell product from the platform. And he has refused to do much of anything to create back-end income. Thus, he's an "NSA big shot" that everybody envies, and he brings in about $800,000.00 a year - but he's on the road virtually five days a week every week like a traveling salesman, he's in poor health, his one kid's a juvenile delinquent, and, well, he's a heart attack waiting to happen. Finally, three years ago he saw the light. And even though he still rarely sells product from the platform, he did at least do something with all those business cards he collects. The sales letter to the "business cards" gets terrible response in percentage terms - on average only producing one measly coaching sign-up per audience after the fact. Still, by the end of the second year, he has over 400 individuals getting their credit cards dinged for $97.00 a month (that's $38,800.00 a month), plus another 600 paid by corporate clients at $37.00 a month (that's $22,200.00 a month) - total $61,000.00 a month. Very soon, this will provide as much or more monthly income as he's making running around the country like a madman, racing through airports, schlepping to shuttle buses, getting rained on and snowed on. Oh, and by the way, some of these coaching members are (to his surprise!) buying his products off the same web site they visit for their services. I think he did about $20,000.00 or so last year in these accidental, oh-by-the-way sales. Oh, and one company did a "corporate buy-out" and cloned everything -- he lets them clone the site, delivers masters of tele-seminar monthly tapes, a disk of the written materials, etc. and they produce and deliver everything to their employees...they pay $25,000.00 a year for that.
Let's see, that's $61,000.00 times 12 months, $732,000.00, plus $20,000.00, plus $25,000.00 --- $777,000.00. Total costs run less than 20%. So it's about…$621,000.00!!!
By the way, if he totally stopped speaking (or couldn't speak) tomorrow, this would dwindle down by about 30% a year. So the first year of zero-speaking, he'd still bring in about $540,000.00. The second year of zero speaking, still about $380,730.00 coming in the doors. The third year of zero speaking, still about $266,500.00. It'd take four years of zero speaking for the income to drop below $200,000.00. If you stopped speaking tomorrow, what would your income built up through speaking look like next year?
Three years from today --- no matter who you speak to, how often you speak or what you speak about (or how dizzyingly brilliant you are at "the craft") --- you can be starting out again on January 2nd with NO income other than what will occur from your manual labor in the days ahead.......OR you can be like this guy.

My books have been translated and published in Czech Republic, Hebrew, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish and German editions, from which I've received licensing fees and royalties over and above the regular advances and royalties. The size of my advance has 10-timesed from the first book to the seventh. Three of the oldest were up-dated last year and re-issued now, for another "life" in the stores. Two others are being up-dated now for release later this year. I’ve had three different trade publishers, the largest being Dutton/Penguin. Each one is urging me to bring them my next book.

I'm about to break a cardinal rule and do a little teaching here. The rule is: don't teach in a sales letter. Sell in a sales letter. My clients who are "information product direct marketers" and I all LOVE coming into our offices and finding the FAX machine tray full of "money".....product orders. We LOVE getting orders by the Internet, by voice mail, from outsourced order taking services and by mail. This can be a 99.9% automated, robot-run, hands-free, zero staff business fueled by the speaking you're doing anyway. It can build up to big numbers, even to a "real" business with value separate from your speaking business. (I ultimately sold mine.) I canNOT urge you strongly enough to learn everything you can about this. (And I find most speakers know NOTHING about this.)
Personally, I didn't do anything of gigantic proportions. Over 20 years in speaking, I acquired about 40,000 customers willing to continue buying products, newsletters, etc. from me long, long after they'd seen me speak.
In the early years I wasn't near as smart about this or as committed to it as I was in the last 10 years (although I wish I had been.) 40,000 is a good-sized number if you look at it by itself. If you put it in the context of 20 years, it's only 2,000 a year. At an average of, say, 50 gigs a year, it's only about 40 acquired and retained customers per gig. If they made a point of doing that, any speaker could do it. I'm not that difficult to duplicate. It's nothing to brag about.
But that 40-per is a very important "secret" to having speaking make you financially free, independent and secure.
For me, that little number built into a business that made me rich in just 7 years. Then let me sell that business -- a business consisting only of two things: that list and intellectual properties, putting one of the final "bricks" in my retirement. Without that little number, my life would be very, very different.
If you go look at most speakers with 10 to 20 years (or more) in speaking, you will find they have ignored "this little number", they have not built up any significant non-manual-labor income or a viable customer list, they have no mail-order business of any size, and they darned sure have nothing they could sell. In fact, a few years back, a very prominent speaker, a CPAE in NSA, an author of a very fine book which had been in the stores continuously for many years....a 30 year veteran of this business.....died unexpectedly. I knew him and his wife. I expressed condolences and let it go at that. A few months later I heard from two different sources that she was having financial difficulties and might have to sell their house. I called, to explore buying the customer list. And she told me they had no such thing. They had no such thing. What she had to sell were rights to a few cassette programs - virtually worthless by themselves. And his personal library. Dat's it.
Okay, obviously, he could have cured this just by buying more life insurance. So I'm not talking about worrying over what happens if or when you die. My kids are on their own. If I get the chance, I'm spending it all. That' neither here or there. What is important is how you are going to live, as a result of your speaking business.....relaxed, secure, with dependable income OR always chasing the next gig to pay the bills.
Just to clarify, I'm NOT saying you should necessarily, intentionally do less speaking. My friend, the late Cavett Robert, LOVED being on the platform, if he could have he'd have been there on his last day. And that's fine. And if that's you, by all means, work as much as you want to, as long as you want to. But let me make three other suggestions:
(1) Work because you want to, NEVER because you have to.
(2) Get very, very well paid for it, not just in a fee today but in back-end, residual value.
(3) Leverage your talent, don't just use it.

Everything I do, everything I know, may not apply to you. But most of these key areas of this business that I've just described should and can have direct relevance to you, and can be enormously profitable for you.
